In a process that began almost ten years ago, the career and technical centers in New Hampshire have worked closely with the NH Department of Education to develop a uniform set of competencies for each Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offered in the state.
In developing the competencies, we started with a national standard. For example, for Building Trades we used the National Center for Construction Education Research; for Engineering we used International Technology Education Foundation and the Pre-Engineering Technology Advisory Council; etc.
Later, the competency documents were "cross-walked" (i.e., compared with) the NH Frameworks for Science. The CTE competencies are in the process of being crosswalked to the NH Frameworks for Math and Language Arts.
Today, each student's performance against the competencies for his/her program is tracked and the results are reported annually to the Department of Education.
